Today, we highlight Robert Walker, a CFISD grounds department foreman since 1994.

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I have worked in CFISD for 23 years.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

I’m passionate because I love working in the community and also working with good-hearted people and helping everybody when they need me. As long as I can satisfy at least one person, then my job is complete.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

CFISD has impacted me because it has given me an opportunity to grow in my work field and I have had two kids graduate from the district and continue to be successful.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Hard work pays off. Always keep pushing toward your goals.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

My favorite thing to do and see is anything to do with sports and spending time with family and friends. I like experiencing the different variety of restaurants and entertainment in the community.

Today, we highlight Shawn McAnear, head band director at Bridgeland High School and the former band director at Cypress Falls High School.

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I have served 21 years as a band director in CFISD.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

I am passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community because it allows me to do what I love each and every day. I get to teach life lessons through music to help students develop the skills needed to be successful citizens.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

CFISD has continued to support the vision of fine arts programs throughout the district. With their support, we continue to challenge ourselves individually and as an ensemble to be better than the performance before. In return, we as a band program work extremely hard to represent our school and community throughout the state and nation at the highest levels possible.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

We talk all the time with the Bridgeland band members that the only variable you can control is you. Set goals, work hard, focus on the task at hand, do everything you can to be better each time and always make your bed!

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

We love attending fine arts events throughout CFISD. The amount of talent on display by the many student performers is truly amazing. From the many marching and concert bands, choirs, orchestras, art displays and theater productions–there is always something great going on at a campus near you!

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I have lived in and worked for Cypress-Fairbanks for more than 30 years.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

I am passionate about Cypress-Fairbanks ISD because I have grown not only personally but professionally through my years. I have made lifelong friendships. Cypress-Fairbanks is passionate about their employees, so that motivated me every day to be the best I can be.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

Cypress-Fairbanks has impacted me when I was able to see all my children go through Cy-Fair schools and prepare them for their future careers. I am grateful to work for a district that allows me to provide for my family and watch my children be products of Cy-Fair ISD.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

To accept challenges, learn from your mistakes and show passion toward the career you choose. Always strive for the best, stay focused and become a productive citizen.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I like to attend high school craft shows and support local restaurants while seeing students working and being productive and making a difference in lives of others.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

I love my Cy-Fair community. We are all one big family who helps one another and cheers each other on!

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

Cy-Fair has helped grow and mold me into the teacher I am today. I’ve had the amazing experience to work with and learn from some of the best administrators and teachers. I’ve met some of my best friends by working here in Cy-Fair. We really are one big community that supports one another!

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Never give up! You can achieve anything you set out to do! If you can dream it, you can achieve it!

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I love trying new restaurants, attending movies, concerts and sporting events!

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I am starting my fourth year with CFISD.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

When we decided to move to the Houston area from El Paso, Texas, my wife and I visited all the areas around Houston. We found the friendliest people in CFISD. They made my wife and me feel welcomed.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

Working for CFISD has really shown me a school district that cares for its students in all aspects of their education–academics, extracurricular activities, and their physical and emotional needs.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Trust what the educators in the district are telling you. We are here to help you grow as a person and to send you out into the world with the knowledge to be the best that you can be.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I love golf, and Cypress has some of the best. All my free time is on the golf course. My wife and I are always looking for the next best restaurant and Cypress has its share of them.

I have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to the educational development of elementary students in CFISD.

CFISD has provided the opportunity to impact elementary-age students through working in the library and participating in classroom reading.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Take advantage of the many educational and extra-curricular programs offered in Cy-Fair ISD.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I enjoy dining at the wide variety of restaurants throughout the community. I also enjoy playing golf at a variety of courses both in our community and elsewhere in the metropolitan area.

I love the environment Cypress-Fairbanks creates. We have such a powerful and caring community.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

My family has enjoyed the schools that my sisters and I have attended, as they are all such welcoming and successful schools.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Be involved in all there is to offer! Join sports, clubs and extracurricular activities that you enjoy, as they are all such great environments to be a part of every day.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

My mother and I attend the annual “Shop ’til you Drop” event held at the Berry Center every year. It is so much fun!

I have lived in CFISD for 20 years and worked in CFISD for six years.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

CFISD creates an amazing community and is well-known for being a leader in education throughout the state.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

CFISD is where I received my education from elementary through high school. For the past six years, I have had the opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to me as a teacher.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Give your best effort in all that you do and always believe in yourself. You are capable of great things!

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I love running into other CFISD families as well as my students at community events. It is great that CFISD has helped our area establish a small-town feel within such a large suburban area.

Today, we highlight Lily Jang, a CFISD “lifer” who attended Lowery Elementary School and Labay Middle School before graduating from Langham Creek High School. Jang worked as a reporter and anchor for KHOU Channel 11 for nearly five years before transitioning into her current career in real estate.

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I graduated from Langham Creek High School.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

I am a product of Cy-Fair ISD schools! I attended Lowery Elementary, Labay Junior High and Langham Creek High School. I am so proud of being a Lobo!

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

I owe everything I have to growing up in the Cy-Fair area my entire life. Langham Creek was a National Exemplary School while I was there and I am proud to have graduated in the top 10 percent of my senior class. My parents still live in the same home I grew up in!

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

You have the best teachers any district has to offer. Take every opportunity they give you and excel at it. This is the time of your life to learn who you want to be. And whatever that is, believe in yourself that you will crush your biggest dreams.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

The Cy-Fair area has one-of-a-kind restaurants and neighborhoods. I spent many weekends at Copperfield Parks with my friends. That was many years ago. You have so much more fun things to do these days where you will make amazing memories.

Today, we highlight Isabel Rodriguez, a beloved CFISD bus driver who joined our transportation team 37 years ago on Sept. 2, 1980. Her infectious smile for every student she transports exemplifies her love for the job, and she is grateful to be able to touch lives throughout the district.

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

I have lived in the Cypress area since 1978, and have worked for CyFair since 1980.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

My husband and I were looking for the best education for our two daughters. Cy-Fair offered everything we wanted for our girls.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

My girls received a wonderful education from Cy-Fair High School, and both girls went on to Texas A&M and received their degrees. The oldest daughter went on to get her master’s. Both daughters are very successful and I attribute a lot of that to their education in Cy-Fair.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Focus on your school work and you will reap your rewards.

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I love all that this area has to offer. There are so many things to see and do and wonderful places to eat without having to go very far. I love the community atmosphere Cypress has. It’s just a great place to live and raise a family.
