CFISD Community Cheerleader Spotlight: Keith Barber

cheerleader-barber-33As the third-largest school district in Texas and the largest employer in Northwest Harris County, Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District impacts the lives of far more than the 115,000 students and thousands of teachers, employees and administrators across 88 elementary, middle and high school campuses and special program facilities that study and work within our walls. In fact, we’re proud that as a top-rated school district, the work we do within our school system extends beyond the schools and permeates within our neighborhoods and businesses, making the greater Cypress-Fairbanks community a better place to work, live, study and play. The Cypress-Fairbanks community excels because of our CFISD cheerleaders; the individuals and businesses that invest in and support our students and community at large.

Today, we highlight Keith Barber, CEO of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and senior vice president of Houston Methodist.

Business:

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

Cypress-Fairbanks is home to one of our emergency care centers and the Houston Methodist Primary Care Group practice on State Hwy. 290. Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is committed to faithfully serving the health care needs of residents in this area and I personally see myself as a part of the Cy-Fair community.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

CFISD is a rapidly growing school district with a long history of pursuing academic excellence. The district is not only a prized member of the immediate Cypress-Fairbanks community, but a contributor to the progress and success of the greater Northwest Houston community. Thanks to the publicity opportunities available in CFISD, our organization regularly places advertisements and other informational materials in the district’s newsletters and through other promotional avenues.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Stay focused on academics while taking advantage of the district’s various offerings from enhanced educational programs to arts and athletics to volunteering opportunities. Be open to new things and seek experiences that broaden your horizon. Take risks and see mistakes as learning opportunities. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the journey itself!

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

I enjoy attending the community events at the Berry Center.

How long have you lived/worked in Cypress-Fairbanks?

Two years.

Why are you so passionate about being a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks community?

It is an amazing place to work and raise a family! A strong school district is the backbone of a strong community. It drives involvement, economic development, real estate values, and many other key indicators of a flourishing community.

How has Cypress-Fairbanks ISD impacted you, your family or your business?

Cypress-Fairbanks has helped Memorial Hermann Cypress to recruit and hire the most talented nurses, doctors, physical therapists, and other healthcare workers available. Without a strong district it would be much more difficult for us to bring the very best talent to this area.

What piece of advice would you like to give to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students?

Study hard in school, get a great college degree or technical training, and then come back to the area to help support our thriving businesses. We know we will need you in the healthcare field!

What’s your favorite thing to do, see, eat or experience in our community?

Getting to know new folks in Cypress. It is a place to meet some of the best and most genuine people in the world.
